This process is not designed to reach a final agreement, it is for the couple to reach an interim agreement so that they each have the time and space to consider what they need on a final basis. This way no one is rushed into decisions at a time of great upheaval and change, but at the same time immediate issues are discussed and mediated to avoid growing conflict.
